LAHORE: A man and his wife were booked on charges of torturing a 10-year-old maid over the suspicion of stealing Rs 500 in Samanabad area of Lahore.
According to sources, police have apprehended accused Suhail Anjum, a Sub Divisional officer (SDO) of the Buildings Department, while his wife Afshan managed to escape from the scene.
A first information report (FIR) was registered aganist the accused and his wife on behalf of the victim’s family after a medico-legal report confirmed that the maid, Kiran had suffered bruises.
Sources, further said the victim Kiran has been working as a housemaid at the residence for the last couple of years but she was tortured on the suspicion of stealing Rs 500. The victim was shifted to Ganga Ram Hospital for treatment.
According to police, the FIR was registered under Sections 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and 337 (f) (punishment of ghayr-jaifah) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Family members of the victims said that accused and his wife had poured boiling water over Kiran’s feet and also beaten her, resulting in grave injuries.
They demanded the arrest of accused wife Afshan, as well as transparent investigation in to the incident. The family also alleged that influential persons have forced them to settle the matter.
