ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Khan Tareen on Sunday turned down the latest allegations of causing losses to country’s power sector.
On a social media website Twitter, the renowned business tycoon said: “The latest mudslinging news about my company’s power projects over billing CPPA (Central Power Purchasing Authority) is totally wrong. We have billed according to contract”.
Tareen further wrote, “CPPA has actually DEDUCTED Rs 3.9 Bn from us. We have appealed against this deduction in the High Court and the case is now ongoing,” he added.

Jahangir Khan Tareen’s group was among those responsible for the losses incurred by the power sector, according to a report by an inquiry committee formed to probe the alleged minting of billions of rupees by Independent Power Plants (IPPs).
The report claimed that Tareen’s JDW minted Rs 3.85 billion through two power plants which are bagasse plants.
Makhdoom Omar Shehryar’s power plant run by RYK Sugar Mills and a plant of Salman Shahbaz’s Chiniot Sugar Mills, which work on bagasse, also illegally earned billions of rupees, it added.
The probe team further disclosed that rate of electricity in Pakistan is most expensive in the region, besides alleging private companies of provide wrong oil statistics to get tariff of their own wish.
