SIALKOT: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has urged the people of Pakistan to follow the precautionary measures issued by the government during the holy month of Ramazan.
Addressing a press conference in Sialkot today (Sunday), she said, “The precautionary measures have been drafted for your protection,” adding that the masses should act responsibly and save others from getting infected.
The Special Assistant further urged the masses to pray at home during Ramazan, adding that caution was the only way to prevent the deadly disease.
Commenting on lockdown, Firdous Awan said that an incremental lockdown would have been most effective to contain the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
She further said that the federal government was pursuing a strategy to prevent coronavirus and save people from unemployment. She conceded that the pandemic was an unprecedented challenge.
The Special Assistant also announced that Prime Minister Imran Khan will soon announce a relief package for small traders – whose businesses have been affected by the coronavirus lockdown.
Referring to Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme, she said that almost 144 billion rupees were being distributed among the deserving families. The PM’s aide said, “We need to provide food and rations to those affected by the lockdown.”
Firdous Ashiq Awan also informed that stern measures were being taken against the hoarders and profiteers of essential commodities.
Commenting on The 20-point agenda regarding Ramazan, she expressed hope that religious scholars would ensure the implementation of the drafted measures for congregational prayers in mosques.
On the occasion, Firdous Ashiq Awan also distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) among the media workers amid coronavirus outbreak.
