ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has reiterated that fighting the coronavirus pandemic and savings people’s lives was a national duty.
Addressing a video conference session today (Saturday), PM Imran has said that people should not be hindered by such fake news or politics.
PM Imran also expressed fears that the coronavirus cases across the country may increase by May 20.
He further said that there would have been 50,000 cases by April 25 as per initial projections but that is not the case, adding that new projections suggest that the country would see 12,000 to 15,000 patients.
However, the premier said, the situation in Pakistan was much better compared to other countries. He also said that the federal government was concerned about the impact it would have on the poor in Pakistan.
PM Imran urged critics not to politicise the coronavirus pandemic and said that a partial lockdown had been imposed keeping in mind the plight of the poor in the country.
The Prime Minister said, “There is a group that wants more damage to happen in the country so that they can benefit politically from this.”
Referring to world leaders, he said that leaders around the world had made mistakes in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic and had been reprimanded by media.
Commenting on media reports regarding a rise in coronavirus deaths in Karachi, he termed those media reports as ‘irresponsible’, and urged the people of Pakistan not to spread panic among the masses.
“Which silly government will hide coronavirus deaths? If we hide facts from people, will the cases disappear?” PM Imran asked.
“I believe this is a trial from Allah and it is my faith that Pakistan will emerge stronger from this test,” he concluded.
