KARACHI: A woman was killed when police opened aerial firing to disperse people fighting over ration which was being distributed among the COVID-19 affectees in Karachi’s PIB Colony.
According to details, the members of two welfare organisations were distributing rations and a scuffle broke out among them.
After an exchange of harsh words between police and the workers of the charity organisations, a police Head Constable Azeem opened fire to disperse the crowd.
A bullet from the policeman’s firing hit a 26-year-old woman who was standing at the rooftop of a nearby building.
The injured was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment where she succumbed to her injuries.
Following the incident, the locals of the area got agitated and protested against the policemen. The people also broke the windows of the police mobile by hurling stones at them.
According to police officials, four policemen, including Azeem, were trying to disperse mob after the incident however the woman died accidentally.
Police further said that the weapon has been confiscated from Azeem, who involved in firing and a probe into the incident is underway.
