The Italian Football Federation is hoping to test all Serie A players for coronavirus in May before restarting the league.
Serie A has been suspended since March 9 because of the global coronavirus pandemic. It was one of the first major leagues to be postponed.
In this regard, Federation President said, “As soon as the conditions are right, we’ll finish the championship,” adding, “Soon, there will be a meeting. We will establish the procedure which we will then communicate.”
He further said, “We will start, I hope, at the beginning of May with tests to ensure that players are negative and training can follow. However, we don’t have a deadline but the idea is to finish the championships.”
Earlier last week, German teams became the first from Europe’s top leagues to return to training, with precautions in place.
Juventus lead the Italian top flight, one point ahead of Lazio and nine clear of third-placed Inter Milan. There is no set date for when the league can resume in Italy, with 12 full rounds and four outstanding fixtures still to play.
Italy has been one of the hardest-hit countries by the coronavirus pandemic. So far, coronavirus has claimed lives of more than 20,000 people across Italy and has affected more than 150,000 people.
