United Kingdom: Oxford University’s scientist, Sarah Gilbert has said a vaccine for COVID-19 could be ready for the general public in the next five months.
Sarah Gilbert is head of a team of researchers who are developing a vaccine that could protect people across the world from the COVID-19.
In an interview, the professor said that the researchers’ team has already created a potential vaccine that is ready to begin human trials within two weeks.
She said that the scientist team is 80 percent confident of its success, “based on other things that we have done with this type of vaccine”, she added.
Gilbert said She is in discussions with the British government about funding, and starting production before the final results are in, allowing the public to access the vaccine immediately if it proves to work. She said success by the autumn was “just about possible if everything goes perfectly.”
The United States has passed the grim milestone of 20,000 coronavirus deaths and has also overtaken Italy to have the highest number of deaths in the world.
According to a tally maintained by Johns Hopkins University, coronavirus has claimed the lives of at least 20,071 people in the US and has affected more than 519,400 people.
