ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant- General Muhammad Afzal has said that Pakistan possesses testing facility for 75-days to diagnose coronavirus.
Talking to journalists in Islamabad International Airport today (Saturday), NDMA Chairman said that the statements circulating were wrong that the existing number of tests conducted were less than the demand
The Lieutenant-General also informed that there was no shortage of testing kits and machines required to contain coronavirus pandemic.
Muhammad Afzal said, “Concurrently, more than 3,500 tests are being conducted per day as per the measures of the provinces that can be increased further.”
He further said that the concerned authorities were increasing the present testing capacity of coronavirus regularly, adding that Pakistan has the ability to hold 30,000 to 40,000 tests per day.
Commenting on the medical staff, General Afzal said that the doctors and paramedics were the frontline soldiers of the country in its fight against coronavirus.
“All sorts of hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have received medical equipment, while hospitals in Punjab will receive protective equipment tomorrow,” he said. “The consignment of medical has been prepared for Sindh and would be provided soon,” he concluded.
