ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that the federal government was making vigorous efforts to bring back overseas Pakistanis stranded in different parts of the world due to coronavirus.
The statement came during a meeting in Islamabad today (Saturday). He urged the provincial governments to step forward to play their role in improving testing and quarantine facilities in a bid to accelerate the repatriation.
FM Qureshi also announced that the government has evolved a consensus Standard Operating System and Protocol for the repatriation of stranded Pakistani citizens.
Revealing the number of returnees, FM Qureshi said that they have brought back 1,600 people through nine special flights, while thousands were waiting for their turn.
The foreign minister also assured that the government fully realizes the pain of overseas Pakistanis. He also directed all the Pakistani embassies and missions to take care of the nationals.
FM Qureshi also urged the workers of Tableeghi Jamaat to remain in touch with Pakistani ambassadors wherever they are staying.
The foreign minister further informed that a strategy was also being evolved for the repatriation of pilgrims, adding that efforts were being made for the early release of detained Pakistani citizens in various countries.
