ISLAMABAD: The distribution of cash assistance to deserving families under the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme will begin from today (Thursday).
In this regard, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Poverty alleviation, Dr. Sania Nishtar informed that around 12 million families affected by the ongoing coronavirus lockdown would get Rs 12,000 each under the initiative.
Dr. Sania Nishtar also informed that the federal government has allocated Rs 144 billion for the initiative, and would be distributed across Pakistan.
The families will be given cash assistance after biometric verification through 18,065 sale points or retail shops of Habib Bank Limited and Bank Al-Falah across the country. For any query, people can contact toll-free helpline number 0800-26477.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the money will be provided purely on merit to the deserving families under the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme.
PM Imran further said that around 17,000 points have been set up across the country for the cash distribution.
The Prime Minister also maintained that the process of awarding cash worth 144 billion rupees to 12 million deserving families will be completed within the next two and a half weeks.
