HAFIZABAD: A teenage girl was murdered after being kidnapped and raped in Hafizabad District of Punjab on Wednesday.
According to sources, the incident took place within the limits of Saddar Police Station in Hafizabad, where three armed men kidnapped a 15-year-old from her house.
They gang-raped her at gunpoint and later administered poison to her and dumped the girl at a deserted place, the sources said. Meanwhile, a passerby spotted the girl and shifted her to a local hospital for treatment, where she lost her life.
The girl’s relatives and hundreds of the local residents of the area took to the streets with the girl’s body, blocked the roads and demanded chief minister Punjab and other concerned authorities to take notice and arrest those involved in the incident.
The protesters said that rape cases have become a routine in the district as the Hafizabad police have failed in controlling such crimes. Earlier on March, a minor girl was raped and murdered in Jalalpur Bhattian by a rickshaw driver.
Separately, a 12-year-old girl was raped in Pindi Bhattian on February 11. In another incident, two men raped a 13-year old mentally challenged girl at a village near Wah Cantt on 22 January.
