ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has expressed his deep sorrow over the sad demise of Dr. Abdul Qadir Soomro, who died of COVID-19 in Karachi on Monday.
According to a press release, the President appreciated the contribution of the late Dr. Abdul Qadir, who established a special ward for COVID-19 patients at Al Khidmat Hospital, Sukkur.
Doctor Abdul Qadir Soomro has become the first doctor in Sindh and second in the country to succumb to the deadly COVID-19. Soomro was tested positive for coronavirus earlier last week and put on a ventilator several days ago after his condition deteriorated.
Dr Alvi also paid a glowing tribute to Dr. Osama Riaz from Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) for sacrificing his life in the fight against this epidemic.
Dr. Osama Riaz who had contracted the novel coronavirus while screening some infected pilgrims returning from Iran and Iraq in Gilgit-Baltistan lost the battle to COVID-19 disease on 22 March.
Appreciating the services of doctors and nurses, the President said they were wholeheartedly fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and the nation was proud of them for being the true heroes of the country.
