ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Syed Fakhar Imam on Tuesday took oath as Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research.
President Arif Alvi administered the oath at President House in Islamabad where officials were also present. Syed Fakhar Imam had recently replaced outgoing food security minister Khusro Bakhtiar as he was named among beneficiaries of sudden price hikes of sugar and wheat in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s probe report.
The FIA’s report on the wheat-sugar crisis released last week claimed that top PTI members including Jahangir Khan Tareen, as well as Bakhtiar’s brother, were among those who gained from the recent sugar crisis in the country.
An investigation into the crisis had been ordered by Imran Khan in February. He in this regard reshuffled the federal cabinet. Syed Fakhar Imam became Federal Minister for National Food Security, while Makhdoon Khosro Bakhtiar was appointed Federal Minister for Economic Affairs.
