ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet on Friday approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to help the civil administration’s fight against COVID-19.
According to sources, earlier the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had requested for the Pakistan Army’s deployment.The request was approved by the federal cabinet through a summary.
As per a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, the deployment has been made on the request of the departments concerned by exercising the power conferred under Article 245 of the constitution and Section 131A of CrPC 1898.
Pakistan has reported 35 deaths from the novel COVID-19, while the total number of confirmed cases has jumped to 2,458.
At least 928 patients have been tested positive for the epidemic in Punjab, 783 in Sindh, 311 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 190 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 169 in Balochistan, 68 in Islamabad and in Azad Kashmir, 09.
So far, 130 patients have recovered in Pakistan while 10 are in critical condition. The number of officially confirmed fatalities from the novel coronavirus jumped to 52,000 across the world on Friday.
More than one million declared cases have been reported in 200 countries and territories since the epidemic first emerged in China in 2019. Of these cases, at least 182,700 are now considered recovered.
