ISLAMABAD: Flour prices have been reportedly increased in the federal capital and Rawalpindi in the ongoing flour crisis.
According to details, the flour mill owners have been of buying wheat from the quota allotted by the government but are selling 20 kg sacks of flour for Rs 1150 instead of 783. This crisis is being created when people are already suffering from financial problems due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
Flour mills owners have created an artificial wheat crisis. According to official data, 110 flour mills are being provided 40,000 sacks of wheat at the standard rate, yet the flour crisis continues in twin cities.
Mill owners as per the report are smuggling the wheat flour to Peshawar instead of distributing it in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. VDC Controller Mazhar Baloch was earlier suspended for corruption in this regard. A case of corruption has already been registered against him.
On the other hand, there is additional reason for the artificial shortage of flour. Sources claim that some flour mills are shut down; they do not sweat the flour there. They only run the mill to make it visible that the mill is not shut down and working.
