ISLAMABAD: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal has assured that around 50,000 coronavirus testing kits would arrive in Karachi tomorrow (Friday).
Speaking at a media briefing today (Thursday), Muhammad Afzal said that a plane is being dispatched to Wuhan to bring medical equipment, including fifteen ventilators.
He also informed that an eight-member medical team was also arriving in Pakistan from China to help Pakistani medical authorities in order to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.
NDMA Chairman further informed that 80 tonnes of medical supplies would arrive in the country from Beijing tomorrow, adding that number of ICU beds has been increased to 19,600
The chairman also said that beds at quarantine facilities across the country have also been increased to 1,62,000, adding that about 42,000 hotel rooms have been booked to provide quarantine facilities.
He explained, “We have a total of 54,000 medical staff, out of them, 30,000 are those who work in ICUs,” adding that protective kits will be provided to those working in ICUs.
“Almost 450 ventilators were non-functional in Punjab, a good number of which have been made functional,” the NDMA chairman added.
