The Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) has issued fatwa in light of outbreak of novel coronavirus that all political and religious gatherings should be postponed immediately.
The meeting of Pakistan Ulema Council was held today (Tuesday) to discuss the fears of the coronavirus. The meeting was chaired by Chairman Hafiz Tahir Sherani.
According to the decree, the religious scholars have informed the people to follow the measures issued by the government as a precautionary measure to curb the outbreak of coronavirus.
The decree further stated that during the Friday prayers, Urdu sermons should be discontinued and Arabic sermons should be shortened.
In this regard, the religious scholar also asserted that a safe distance should be kept between the rows of worshippers, adding that the floor of the prayer should be washed with soap and water.
The decree also stated that it would be preferable to pray in an open space, adding that the elderly and the sick have been advised to pray at home.
“People should greet each other by saying Assalam Alaikum instead of shaking hands or hugging,” the decree said.
Religious scholars further said that the cleanliness of bathrooms and ablution sinks at mosques should be ensured and soaps and sanitisers should be placed for worshippers.
The scholars strictly forbade the hoarding of hand sanitisers, masks and soaps and ordered the people to report those who were involved in the practice.
