KARACHI: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan has risen to 183 after more people tested positive across the country.
Sindh has become the worst affected province of Pakistan as another 47 new cases have been tested positive for COVID-19 today (Monday).
Sindh Health Department has claimed that a total of 123 people from Taftan have tested positive for the virus in Sukkur, where they have been quarantined, while there are 26 cases in Karachi and one in Hyderabad.
After these cases, the provincial tally for coronavirus cases has reached 150. The Sukkur cases have raised fears that Pakistan s quarantine efforts have been ineffective.
In this regard, Adviser to the C.M. in Sindh Senator Murtaza Wahab took to Twitter and said, “This exponential increase is largely due to the recent inflow of people brought in from Taaftaan after a purported quarantine.”
In another Tweet, he said, “These patients came to Sukkur from Taftan and were purportedly kept in quarantine at the border. All these patients are being kept in isolation.”
‘Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’
Meanwhile, 15 new cases have also been reported by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, all of whom were pilgrims who had returned to Pakistan via Taftan.
Health Minister of the province, Taimur Jhagra, toot to Twitter and confirmed that 15 out of 19 people had tested positive for the virus.
“Just received news that 15 of 19 individuals received in KP from Taftan have tested positive for Corona Virus. These are the first positive cases in KP.”
He further said, “They are being well looked after in quarantine in an isolated facility in DI Khan. More details soon.”
‘Tally’
The national tally has risen to 183.
So far, 150 cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 15 in Kpk, 10 in Balochistan, four in Islamabad, three in Gilgit Baltistan and 1 in Lahore.
