SKARDU: The 26-year-old mountaineer Shabbir Hussain Sadpara climbed the world’s second-highest peak K2, was killed in Skardu road mishap on Monday.
The ill-fated bus was going to Skardu from Rawalpindi carrying 25 passengers, including women and children met with the accident near Skardu. Sadpara was also among the 26 deceased persons.
The spokesperson of Gilgit-Baltistan Faizullah Firaq confirmed the news of deaths that occurred in the incident. He informed that the passenger coaster was traveling from Rawalpindi to Skardu and almost 25 people were onboard.
He further said that so far nine bodies have been retrieved, while the rescue operation is underway in the area. He also informed that a contingent of Pakistan Army is taking part in the relief and the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, the Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister has expressed grief over the dreadful road accident and has given orders for an investigation into the incident. The rescue officials informed that the reason for the crash could not be ascertained according to the initial reports.
