KARACHI: Head coach of Pakistan women’s team Iqbal Imam has said that the team has shown immense improvement in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Addressing a press conference, Iqbal Imam said that the players have shown improvement in all three departments which is a positive sign for them.
Iqbal Imam said, “We started tournament well but unfortunately could not carry the momentum.”
Pointing out the weaknesses of the team, he said, “We lack fitness standards and I think we have to work more on it,” adding that cricket has been advanced and fitness is now necessary to win matches.
He said that the coaching management has sorted out differences between the foreign players and Pakistan players and they will work on it.
Commenting on Bismah Mahroof, he said, “Obviously, Bismah was our main player and she could have made an impact. Unfortunately, we missed her but Javeria Khan led the team well.”
Answering a query, he said that Pakistan Women’s team doesn’t get enough matches in a calendar year as compared to other teams.
He said, “Players of England, Australia, and other countries get 40 to 45 matches in a year whereas our players hardly play 10 to 20 matches that too in domestic tournaments.”
“We are in talks with Wasim Khan and Ehsan Mani to organize more matches for our women cricketers to prepare them strongly for world events,” he added.
