LAHORE: Former Sri Lankan captain and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) president Kumar Sangakkara has said that they were thrilled to play in front of the Pakistani crowd.
Addressing a press conference along with PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan, Kumar Sangakkara said, “It’s been 47 years for MCC and ten years for me personally coming back to Pakistan.”
He thanked PCB and Wasim Khan over the proposal in the MCC meeting and said, “When Wasim Presented the proposal in the MCC meeting, it was an eye-opener for us on how he delivered the points to us and after that presentation, the decision was swiftly made to play in Pakistan.
Commenting on his previous experience of playing in Pakistan, he said, “Immense memories of playing in Lahore against the great players like Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami, Abdul, Razzaq, Inzamam-ul-Haq, who went on to become great players.”
He praised the importance of honours board which display players’ names who scored centuries in test cricket and said, “After viewing the board of players scoring a hundred, it underlines the importance of cricket being played here.”
He encouraged the other countries to play cricket in Pakistan and said, “As the president of the MCC, I am proud of playing a part and be able to encourage other countries to play in Pakistan as one of the best cricketing nations.”
