ISLAMABAD: Singer Shehzad Roy has said that he was grateful that the unconstitutional colonial-era has been suspended by the Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah.
The singer tweeted about his petition filed in the Islamabad High Court earlier against punishing students in an educational institute.
In a tweet, Shehzad Roy wrote, “I am grateful that the operation of Brutal, inhuman and unconstitutional colonial-era law section 89 has been stopped by the Cheif Justice Athar Minallah on “ZindagiiTrust” petition in all the Federal jurisdiction and Islamabad. “

Speaking to the media outside Islamabad High Court, Roy said: “When a child is born, parents hit him, when he goes to school, teachers hit him when he grows older and goes out in the society, police hits him to make him a better person. Contrarily, research shows that the use of violence only increases violence.”
Earlier in IHC’s ruling in the hearing of the corporal punishment case against punishing students in an educational academy, the judge placed a ban on the physical punishment of students.
He also ordered the interior ministry to take steps for the prevention of school punishment under article 14 of the Constitution. The petition was filed by Roy in which he stated that his plea was against student torture in educational institutes.
