GILGIT BALTISTAN: A three-year-old young Astore ibex (Markhor) was freed into its habitat after treatment when the ibex suffered injuries when it fell from a rock in Jutial Nullah area of Gilgit Baltistan (GB).
According to the wildlife department’s Divisional Officer Esa, the markhor had fallen from a cliff in Jutial Nullah central Gilgit and suffered injuries in its legs and head three days ago.
The divisional officer said the kid had not contracted any disease during its captivity. He was properly examined by experts before to release him into the wild, Esa added.
He said the age of the male ibex is three years measured by the length of its horns. He said area people had rescued the injured animal and handed it over to the wildlife department.
Later, the officials shifted it to the veterinary hospital in Gilgit. The doctors said the injured animal received injuries in its legs and head and was suffering from fever.
After three days of treatment, the injured ibex recovered, with the doctors declaring it fit to be released into its natural habitat. However, the wildlife department will keep looking after the young kid till it rejoined its herd in the habitant.
Earlier, the Hunza wildlife magistrate announced eight months imprisonment to an accused for illegally hunting two Himalayan ibex cubs in the Hunza area.
The Gilgit-Baltistan wildlife officials had held the carcasses of ibex cubs during the check-up of a car at Ganish area on the Karakoram Highway in Hunza and apprehended a suspect Rehmat Khan.
