LONDON: PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif filed a defamation suit against ‘Daily Mail’ newspaper and British journalist David Rose in London High Court over earthquake funds story.
Addressing a press conference, Shehbaz Sharif alleged that the Daily Mail’s story was a part of the politically motivated campaign launched against him on the behest of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Shehbaz Sharif said, “PM Imran asked for this article to be written as no real proof exists in this case.”
He further said that PM Imran does not realise that such actions were defaming Pakistan.
The PML-N president said that PM Imran is an expert in lying, deceiving, taking U-turns and making false allegations.
Shehbaz also claimed that Shahzad Akbar was also involved in getting the Daily Mail story published and termed Shahzad Akbar as a ‘sycophant’.
Shehbaz Sharif said that he approached the court as the Daily Mail had failed to give a satisfactory answer about the report, adding that the British court will provide him with justice.
On July 14, 2014, an article was published in Daily Mail authored by David Rose, in which the journalist had alleged that Shehbaz Sharif and his family stole British taxpayers’ money given to Pakistan’s Earthquake Relief and Reconstruction Authority (ERRA) set up to help the victims of the 2005 Pakistan earthquake.
