ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has extended the hearing of Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed in the railway deficit case till 12th February.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed conducted the hearing in which he expressed outrage on Sheikh Rasheed over the poor performance of his department.
CJP Gulzar ordered Sheikh Rasheed to submit a proper business plan for railways in two weeks and inquired about the Tezgam incident to which the railway minister replied that legal action was taken against 75 people.
“What you have investigated until now. You should have better resigned from the post,” CJP asked. “I can resign if you want me to,” Rasheed replied.
“Your whole performance is in front of us. Why don’t we see an active Railway Minister,” CJP said.
During the previous hearing, the CJP remarked that the whole department of railways was engaged in politics. They were establishing and toppling the government on a daily basis.
He also pointed out that the records were manual instead of being computerized. The world had moved on to bullet trains and we were still stuck in the old methods.
CJP also inquired about the Tezgam train incident to which railways lawyer replied that an inquiry was conducted and legal action was taken against two people.
On October 31, around 70 passengers were killed while dozens were injured as three bogies of Tezgam express caught fire near Khanpur area of Rahim Yar Khan.
