RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) will initiate strict action against the construction of an illegal marriage hall in New Chakri area.
The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has asked the Metropolitan Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi (MMCR) and Administrator (Commissioner Rawalpindi Division) to initiate stern action against building inspectors and other officials allegedly involved in allowing residential and commercial buildings illegally in Rawalpindi.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Muhammad Mehmood and Municipal Officer Planning Shehzad Haider have yet commented on the letter received by the RDA.
Building inspectors have allowed the unabated growth of illegal construction within the city after receiving hefty payment from builders and constructors and inflicting heavy losses to the national exchequer.
Recently, building inspectors allowed the illegal construction of three-story marriage hall in New Chakri Road. The RDA had refused to approve a commercial building plan submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhry Sajid.
Deputy Director Building Control Chaudhry Atif Mehmood had not only sealed the illegal marriage hall but also submitted a plaintiff with Police Station Naseerabad for registration of the case against the violators. However, police have not taken action so far till the filing of this report.
Director Metropolitan and Traffic Engineering RDA Jamshed Aftab had sought a detailed report from his officials of the department about all such illegal buildings, including the illegal marriage hall at New Chakri Road. He said that disciplinary action and inquiry will be held and strict action will be taken against the violators including the razing of all illegal constructions.
Director Metropolitan Traffic Engineering RDA has taken action after news reports about the illegal marriage hall and sought a detailed report. The director has asked why the marriage hall was constructed, the officials involved, and why the seal by broken. He also asked why no action has been undertaken against the owner Chaudhry Sajid.
