KARACHI: An accountability court has extended the hearing of booked ones accused in the sugar mills case till 20th January.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented accused Abdul Ghani Majeed, Mustafa Zulqarnain, Salman Younus and others booked in the case.
THE AC court Judge Muhammad Bashir conducted the hearing in which he directed the bureau to provide copies of the reference of accused ones.
The reference is filed under charges of fraudulation of millions of funds issued by the government of Sindh to sugar mills as a bonus for onward payment to sugarcane farmers.
The case of fraudulation in the Sugar Mills case involves an amount of Rs 3.9 billion paid by the Sindh government through Cane Commissioner Sindh to different sugar mills for onward payment to genuine sugar cane growers as subsidy on account of supply of sugar cane for the season 2014 2015.
An investigation was conducted on the eight sugar mills of Omni Group-owned by Anwar Majeed and his four sons Abdul Ghani Majeed, Nimr Majeed, Mustafa Zulqarnain Majeed, and Ali Kamal Majeed.

According to the NAB, out of Rs 728.18 million bonuses granted to these 8 mills of Omni Group, an amount of Rs 346 million has been misappropriated by accused persons for their benefit and enjoyment in connivance with their senior employees by showing different low paid workers of their mills as fake sugarcane growers.
