KARACHI: The Sindh government on Tuesday has taken back its notice enforcing a ban on pillion riding in Karachi ahead of New Year’s Eve 2020.
Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani said that on the orders of Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah the ban on pillion riding was taken back. The change of heart came just 11 hours before the ban came into effect.

Commissioner Karachi said that citizens should be responsible for welcoming the new year 2020 and avoid any kind of misadventure or raucous behaviour.
However, Commissioner Shallwani added that there will be a complete ban on display of weapons, use of firearms and one-wheeling.
A day before on Monday, the Sindh Home Department issued a notice enforcing Section 144 in the metropolis to curtail rousing New Year’s Eve celebrations.
In the earlier notification was claimed that young people cause problems for residents and create traffic delays in the city on New Year’s Eve.

Furthermore, young people from different parts of the city in cars, riding motorcycles without silencers, thronging to Sea Biew, creating traffic jams and inconvenience for local residents.
