ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has once again granted 10 days to the government over the issue of appointment of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)’s members.
The hearing was conducted by the IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah.
On behalf of the federal government, Deputy Attorney General Syed Muhammad Tayyab Shah appeared before the court while the Secretary National Assembly also appeared before the court.
The Secretary National Assembly took the stance that the government should be given 10 more days to resolve the issue of appointment of ECP members in Sindh and Balochistan.

It all started on 22nd August, when the president appointed Khalid Mehmood Siddiqui as the ECP member for Sindh and Munir Ahmed Kakar for Balochistan against the positions vacated by Abdul Ghaffar Soomro and retired Justice Shakeel Baloch, from the two provinces. But the CEC refused to administer the oath of office to both of them while terming their appointment unconstitutional.
In a written statement, the ECP said the president had made the appointments in violation of clauses 2A and 2B of Article 213 of the Constitution.
On 4th November, the IHC suspended the appointments and referred the matter to parliament.
