ISLAMABAD: The 35th death anniversary of legendary poet and writer Faiz Ahmed Faiz is being observed today. His literary work and poetry influenced Urdu literature all over the world.
Faiz Ahmed received his early education from Church Mission School and Masters in English and Arabic from Government College, Lahore. Later, he took up the post of an English Lecturer M.A.O. College, Amritsar while pursuing his passion for Urdu poetry.
Being the student of Patras Bukhari, (another famous name of Urdu Literature), Faiz published his first collection of poetry ‘Naqsh-e-Faryadi’ in 1939.

1- Naqsh-e-Faryadi
2- Dast-e-Saba
3- Zindaan Naama
4- Dast-e- Tah-e-Sang
5- Sar-e-Wadi-e-Seena
6- Sham-e-Sheher-e-Yaaran
7- Mere Dil Mere Musafir.
His complete poetry has been published and titled as ‘Nuskhahaae Wafa’.
Faiz was awarded Pakistan’s highest civil award Nishan-e-Imtiaz in 1990 in recognition of his services in literature. He also won Lenin Peace Prize in 1962. His poetry has been translated into several languages including Russian and English.

5th Faiz International Festival 2019 commemorated his work, whereas Ali Sethi brought Faiz’s famous ghazal ‘Gulon Mai Rang’ back to life in Coke Studio 12.
Faiz Ahmed Faiz passed away on 20th Nov 1984 in Lahore but his legacy will live forever.
