LHC summons federal govt over JUI-F’s Plan-B petition

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned the federal government today over the petition on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F)’s Plan-B of Azadi march. 

The LHC Justice Ameer Bhatti queried a reply from the federal government on a petition challenging JUI-F’s Plan-B under which the party had launched a countrywide protest.

The Justice passed the order on a petition moved by local citizen Irfan Ali.

During the hearing, Advocate Nadeem Sarwar, the counsel for the petitioner, argued that JUI-F Chief Fazlur Rehman was going to launch countrywide protest after his Azadi March against the government.

The party, he said, had announced to block highways and roads in various parts of the country. The protests across the country would paralyze the system, he submitted.

He further said that the JUI-F’s protest was against the country’s constitution. He urged the court for action against JUI-F leadership.

Justice Bhatti issued a notice to the federal government and sought a reply about its stance as to what they were going to do to deal with the JUI-F’s protests across the country.

The Plan-B of JUI-F’s Azadi March began on 13th November From Islamabad where they had been protesting since 31st October.

Thousands of supporters reached the capital Islamabad on Oct. 31, holding a two-week sit-in on the city’s main highway.

Rehman ordered them to disperse across the country on Wednesday to cripple essential roads, in what he called ‘Plan B’ to overthrow Prime Minister Imran Khan over allegations of voter fraud.
