LAHORE: Pakistani badminton Mahoor Shahzad has won gold at the Pakistan International Series 2019 in Islamabad.
Mahoor Shahzad shared her victory on twitter by sharing a picture receiving a champion’s trophy.
She tweeted, “Alhumdulillah, I have won GOLD Medal in Pakistan International Series 2019 by beating Soraya of Iran in Final in three sets with a score of 21-15, 16-21 and 21-16. I’m delighted to have won the only Gold medal for Pakistan in this tournament! #PakistanZindabad #Gold.”

Shahzad clinched a 21-15, 16-21 and 21-16 victory over Iran’s Soraya Aghaei in a riveting final. She is currently ranked 210 in women’s singles with a 26-25 win/loss record.
Earlier, while conducting an interview, Shahzad said, “My aim is to represent Pakistan in the 2020 Olympics for which I am playing International tournaments.”
She added, “To qualify for Olympics 2020, I need to come in the Top 70 players of the world.”
Shahzad further added, “I have played five international tournaments this year so far which includes tournaments in Benin, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, and Bulgaria. Once I accomplish this aim, then I will look forward to reaching the top 50, then top 20 and then top 10.”
Shahzad is a Pakistani badminton player. Shahzad was the women’s singles champion at the 2017 Pakistan International tournament. She has competed at the 2014 Asian Games, and 2018 Commonwealth Games.
