KARTARPUR: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Kartarpur is the corridor of peace, love and goodwill which is the message preached by the founder of Sikhism Baba Guru Nanak.
Addressing the Kartarpur opening ceremony, the foreign minister said the world is witnessing the steps being taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan and the government for promotion of interfaith harmony.
“The doors of Kartarpur sahib have been opened for you,” the foreign minister said, addressing members of the Sikh community across the world.
The foreign minister credited the Prime Minister Imran Khan for the historic day goes who spoke for the protection minorities rights in accordance with the Islamic teachings and the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said the government has identified four hundred temples for renovation.
“If the Berlin Wall can be demolished, if the Kartarpur Corridor can be opened, then the temporary boundary of the Line of Control can also be ended,” he said, referring to the Kashmiris right to self-determination.
He said Baba Guru Nanak preached the message of love, harmony and respect for humanity and the same message was preached by our Sufi saints.
He said this message of peace should also reach to occupied Kashmir where people have been confined to their homes and not allowed to offer their Friday prayers.
He asked Indian Prime Minister Modi, who had earlier thanked Prime Minister Imran, whether he will also give his Pakistani counterpart the chance to thank him.
“You can do so by lifting the curfew in occupied Kashmir, ending the use of pellet guns, ending the violations of human rights and by ending the communication blackout”.
Baba Guru Nanak spread message of peace: Religious Affairs Minister
Addressing the ceremony, Minister for Religious Affairs Noor ul Haq Qadri said the opening of this corridor is the biggest message of love, peace and harmony after partition of Indian sub-continent.
He said Prime Minister Imran Khan fulfilled the promise made to Sikh community of opening one of their holiest places.
“Imran Khan, the promise you made to the millions of Sikhs has been fulfilled. And I congratulate Sardar Navjot Singh as it was you who brought this idea to the prime minister.
The minister said Baba Guru Nanak spent his life spreading message of love and peace. He said Guru Nanak spent six years in Baghdad and visited the holy shrines of Muslims regularly that showed his passion for inter-faith harmony and respect for followers of other religions.
Qadri said the teachings of Baba Guru Nanak revolved around love, peace and tranquility.
