LOS ANGELES: Leonardo DiCaprio praised the teenage climate change activist, Greta Thunberg and called her a “leader of our time” in his recent Instagram post.
The post from the actor came after meeting Thunberg for the first time.
DiCaprio took to Instagram and shared a post with 16-year-old activist with a detailed caption.
He started the post praising the young Greta for her determination for a good cause.
He said, “There are few times in human history where voices are amplified at such pivotal moments and in such transformational ways – but Greta Thunberg has become a leader of our time.”
“History will judge us for what we do today to help guarantee that future generations can enjoy the same livable planet that we have so clearly taken for granted”, he added.
The 44-year-old actor regarded Thunberg’s movement as a “wake-up call to world leaders everywhere that the time for inaction is over.”
Thanking the climate change activist, DiCaprio also said that he was “optimistic about what the future holds.”
The Academy Award winner concluded the post saying, “It was an honour to spend time with Greta, she and I have made a commitment to support one another, in hopes of securing a brighter future for our planet.”
This is not the first time that DiCaprio has spoken about environment and climate. The star has addressed the issue in his speech at UN to spread awareness regarding threatening environmental changes.
“The time to answer the greatest challenge of our existence on this planet is now. You can make history or be vilified by it. Climate change is not a hysteria, it is a fact”, said the actor.
“Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating”, he said.
