ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan while chairing a high-level meeting on the rise in polio cases on Wednesday said that eradication of polio is the top-most priority of Pakistan.
The prime minister expressed serious concern over the recent spike in polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of Pakistan.
He said, “The eradication of polio is the top-most priority of the government as it affects the future generation.”
The prime minister directed officials concerned in the federal as well as provincial governments to undertake effective awareness to check the cases of polio.
The meeting was attended by SAPM on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza, prime minister’s Focal Person on Pakistan Polio Eradication Initiative Babar Bin Atta and representatives from UNICEF, WHO, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and senior officials.
Chief Ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan and the Chief Secretaries of Punjab and Sindh apprised the meeting regarding measures taken for polio eradication in their respective provinces.
