ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi announced civil awards on the occasion of the country’s 74th Independence Day.
The investitures ceremony for the awards would be held on Pakistan Day March 23, 2021. The awards has been conferred to 184 Pakistanis and foreigners in recognition of their services to Pakistan and showing excellence in their respective fields.
Those who will be presented with the awards by the president include actors, poets, singers, and soldiers as well as foreign nationals for their services to the country.
Among the people who will be receiving Hilal-i-Imtiaz are renowned painter Sadeqain Naqvi, Arts (Painting/Sculpture), Abida Parveen Arts (Singing) and late poet Ahmed Faraz (poetry). Sitara-i-Imtiaz will be presented to noted actors Bushra Ansari and Talat Hussain, among others.
Anchor Naeem Bukhari will also be receiving Sitara-i-Imtiaz. Edhi Foundation head Faisal Edhi will be awarded with the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz. The President’s Award for Pride of Performance will be presented to religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel, along with actor Humayun Saeed, singer Ali Zafar and Sakina Samo.
The head of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Jack Ma has been awarded the Hilal-e-Quaid-e-Azam for his services to Pakistan and asisstance during the coronavirus pandemic.
Separately, President Dr. Arif Alvi conferred Nishan-i-Pakistan, the country’s highest civil award, on veternan Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Geelani in recognition of his decades-long struggle for Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
A Hurriyat leader received the award from the president on Geelani’s behalf at an investiture ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr, following hoisting of national flag to mark the 74th Independence Day of Pakistan.
