KARACHI: Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar directed all police officials to make sure that Tableeghi Jamaat members across the province remain in the mosques and to consider all such mosques as quarantine centres.
The police chief in a notification asked concerned SSPs in the province to prepare a complete list of Tableeghi Jamaat members in their respective areas.
He also instructed to ensure the delivery of ration and food supplies to the Tableeghi Jamaat members with the consultation of health officials and district administration.
The move comes after 36 Tableeghi Jamaat members tested positive for the coronavirus in Hyderabad’s Noor Mosque, where some 200 Jamaat members were initially quarantined.
They had returned from the Tableeghi Jamaat congregation in Lahore Raiwind —comprising 10 of thousands of people — held from March 11 to 15.
Earlier, two people died in Karachi after having contracted the coronavirus at the Raiwand Ijtima, according to the Sindh health department.
