LAHROE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday accepted Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah’s plea to end the NAB investigation into ‘assets beyond known means’ case.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi conducted a hearing on the plea during which NAB’s lawyer Faisal Bukhari took the plea that the anti-graft body has submitted its response to the high court.
Rana Sanaullah’s lawyer Amjad Pervez apprised the court that according to the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Rana Sanaullah made all property from drug dealing, but according to NAB Rana Sanaullah made the assets from corruption, on which NAB also sent a notice to investigate the property, adding that the notice had been challenged in court.
He said that there was only one property but there are two different statements from two different agencies regarding it, arguing that as per NAB, there was no evidence of corruption against Rana Sanaullah.
After hearing the arguments, the Lahore High Court accepted the plea to close the NAB investigation of Rana Sanaullah.
Case Background
Last year, NAB’s Lahore Division approved an assets beyond means inquiry against Sanaullah. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Lahore NAB’s Director-General Major General (retd) Shahzad Saleem at the accountability watchdog’s office in the city.
According to NAB officials, then NAB chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal was requested to approve the filing of a reference so that a probe into Rs190 million worth of assets allegedly acquired by Sanaullah can be launched.
