Lahore has been named among the safest cities in the world, after an improvement of 56 ranking place and has surpassed Paris, New York, and Chicago on the World Crime Index (WCI).
According to a survey conducted by Numbeo for January 2020, Lahore was ranked 230th out of a total of 374 cities in the world. In 2019, Lahore was placed at 174 and moved to 202 with an improvement of 28 places in mid-2019.
Karachi has also improved the rankings by 22 places and moved from 66th position to 88th position.
Numbeo is a crowd-sourced global database of reported consumer prices, perceived crime rates, and quality of healthcare, among other statistics. Numbeo presents its rating on the World Crime Index in the ascending order.
In the last five years of ratings, Lahore and Karachi have improved gradually with each year passing. According to the index, in 2014, Lahore was on 74 and Karachi on sixth.
In 2015, Lahore improved to 89th and Karachi to 10th. In mid-2015 Lahore moved to 96th and Karachi to 21.
In 2016, Lahore observed a decrease in WCI to 86th while Karachi improved to 26th.
In 2017, Lahore increased its position and was ranked 119th.
In 2018, Lahore was ranked at 173rd and Karachi 62nd on the list.
