KARACHI: While leveling allegations of worng and immoral attitude, the clinical staff of Karachi University (KU) has denied working under Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr. Abid Hussan and demanded the administration to remove him from the post.
In their letter to Acting Voice Chancellor, Dr. Professor Nasra Khatoon, the staffers have expressed reservations over working under Dr. Abid Hussain, while General Auqab (Musharraf) group, Insaf Pasan group, and Peoples United Employees have shown their good well for Medical Officer Dr. Hassan Auj.
As per details, the acting in charge of the University Dr. Abid Hassan having taken leaves went to the USA on February 13. It is said that he is going to retire in December. Due to this, he is currently on LPR, while LPR’s employees can be given leaves only on basis of sickness or Hajj. Dr. Wafa of 18th grade was made an acting Senior Medical Officer( SMO) in place of Dr. Abid Hassan of the same grade when he was on leave.
Before leaving for the USA, Dr, Abid Hassan issued a show-cause notice to Dr. Hasaan Auj, in which he had written to the former that he illegally held a meeting of the welfares association in the counsel room, while the officers association has no right to issue a statement against the administration or deliver any speech. The show-cause notice further read that, being a syndicate member you (Dr. Auj) have no authority to do what you have done. “Give reply, why you did all this otherwise action will be taken against you,” the notice added.
After receiving the notice, Dr, Auj on 14 February submitted his detailed reply in the registrar’s office, in which he said that he had received a letter from the acting medical officer Dr. Abid Hussan in which he has leveled baseless allegation on me. I did not attend any protest, however, attended the Karachi University Teachers Society ( KUTS) press conference, demanding the appointment of a permanent Voice Chancellor in the university, as a syndicate member and president of KUTS.
In his reply, Dr.Auj further wrote that the inattentive Dr. Abid Hassan himself used not to sing in the register in the era of Dr. Nadeem and Dr. Yasmeen, now he ( Dr.Abid Hassan) has an Inferiority complex and he is jealous of the young doctors.
Dr. Auj wrote: gather the teachers of the university, conduct a referendum and check the record. I and Dr. Wafa attended the largest number of patients in OPD. “Since last one year Dr. Abid Hassan has been creating more than enough problems, he is directly criticizing me and dubbing me with different names. Stop him from this.
On contact. Dr.Auj told this reporter that, on the one hand, Dr. Abid Hassan is on LPR, and on the other hand he went USA taking leaves, while he can not avail leave to travel abroad as he is on LPR. In the past, he had done the same with Dr. Tanvir, who had applied for Canida, but Dr.Abid Hassan started a campaign against him and as a result, got him fired from the job.
Meanwhile, On March 17, an application has been submitted by Dr. Auj, in the office of the university Chancellor, under diary number 9441, in which he wrote: We people cannot work in the clinic under Dr.Abid Hassan, as we are not satisfied working under him. Sings of many others employees also exist on this application.
“Dr. Abid Hassan applied for the USA nationality and for this purpose he also went to the USA in 2019; while currently, he is on LPR and how a person who is on LPR can take leaves. He cannot join as an in-charge after returning,” the application read.
Dr. Auj wrote that it is immoral that a person who is applying for USA nationality is working in a high post in the university, that is why we are requesting to remove him and appoint Dr.Wafa Altaf on the post until the selection board appoints a new MSO.
Association of Nonteaching staffers also expressed their solidarity with Dr. Auj. In this regard Chairman Insaf Pasan group Muhammad Mehmood has submitted a letter in the registrar’s office, saying that all employees of the university are victims of the wrongful and immoral attitude of Dr. Abid Hassan.
In his letter Mehmood said that they are clearly informing the administration of the university that all employees have complaints again Dr.Abid Hassan, thus he is not acceptable to them anymore. “We are requesting to appoint a new SMO otherwise the employee will be compelled to start severe protest”, he added.
Meanwhile, Chairman of General Auqab(Musharraf) group Munawer Bakhsh Abasi also issued a statement in the favor of Dr.Auj and expressed solidarity with him.
The general secretary of Peoples United Employees Wajid Malik also wrote a letter to the registrar in the favor of Dr. Auj in which he has leveled many allegations on Dr.Abid Hussan and demanded his ousting.
When contacted to Dr. Abid Hussan, he said that neither he is on LPR nor he has applied for the USA nationality, but he already has a green card as his whole family is staying in the USA.
He further said that Dr.Auj is not realizing the matters as he is young and also involved in politics. “ I never did any wrong and immoral work and will not allow anyone to do it too. In 2007 I was expelled but restored back on the court order,” he concluded.
