ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday discussed overall political and economic situation of the country.
The dire situation in Occupied Kashmir as well as Indian aggression on the line of control was also discussed. The cabinet was briefed on the prices of essential commodities.
The federal cabinet reportedly approved amendments in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law 1999 and Benami Transaction Act 2017.
According to the amendment in the NAB law 1999, a suspect facing corruption charges of Rs. 50 million will be provided C-class facilities in jail. The suspect would also be entitled for the same class facilities during trial and investigation of the charges.
The meeting discussed twelve point agenda including the opposition’s ‘Azadi March’ announced by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. The meeting was also briefed over the prime minister’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia.
The meeting approved six new laws through ordinance, which include amendments in NAB aw 1999 and Benami Transaction Act 2017, formation of Legal and Justice Authority and the Code of Conduct for the higher judiciary ordinance was also approved.
Also on the agenda was the appointments of chairpersons of the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology, Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resource (PCRWR)and the IRSA members.
