SAN FRANCISCO: Facebook has said that it has identified more than 400 malicious Android and iOS apps this year that target people across the internet to steal their Facebook login information.
The social media giant said it has reported findings to Apple and Google and are helping potentially impacted people to learn more about how to stay safe and secure their accounts.
The apps were listed in the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store and disguised themselves as photo editors, games, VPN services, business apps and other utilities.

Apple said that it doesn’t tolerate fraudulent or malicious apps in the App Store and that the 45 iOS apps Meta researchers flagged have already been removed.
Keeping malicious apps off your phone is a constant struggle. Despite efforts from Apple and Google to keep these apps out of their mobile app stores, scoundrels with designs on your personal information still elude detection. Of the 400 apps Meta uncovered, most were Android apps.
