Exceeding revenue target: PM Imran Khan congratulates FBR on tax collection

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has congratulated the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) team for collecting more tax than the target and said that tax revenue has increased by 37 percent in the last five months.

In his message on social networking site Twitter, the prime minister said that tax collections during November increased by 35% over the previous financial year.

In a Twitter message, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that 37 percent more tax was collected during the last five months of the current financial year as compared to the same period of the previous financial year.

The prime minister congratulated the FBR team on the over-receipt and said that the receipts during the month of November increased by 35 percent from the previous financial year and 37 percent in the first five months.

It may be recalled that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) collected 36.5 percent more tax in the first five months of the current financial year. 2,314 billion was received in the first five months of the current financial year.

The FBR had set a tax collection target of Rs 2,016 billion for five months. 298 billion more tax was collected than the target. The excess tax was also collected in the first 5 months of the last financial year.  In the first five months of the last financial year, the FBR collected Rs 1,695 billion in taxes. In comparison, this year’s tax collection was 36.5% higher.

The latest tax collection for the current financial year was in November which stood at Rs 470 billion. The FBR had set a tax collection target of Rs 408 billion. More than Rs 62 billion was received from the target.

During the same month (November) of the last financial year, the FBR had collected Rs 348 billion in taxes. The prime minister has congratulated the FBR on the collection of tax in excess of the target.
