KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice of the advertisement campaign being run on national mainstream media by the Sindh government as people of Karachi and Hyderabad cast their votes for Local Government elections on Sunday.
Sindh government had launched a number of schemes, including bus services for the people of Karachi and Hyderabad during last few months. The same was being run as ‘paid advertisement’ to highlight PPP-led government’s services for the masses on the voting day.
Taking notice of the Ad campaign, the ECP contacted Chief Secretary Sindh and Chairman PEMRA in this regard and termed the running of the advertisement as a violation of the code of conduct.
The ECP maintained that attempts are being made to influence the electoral process and issued instructions to Chairman PEMRA to immediately halt the advertisements by Sindh government.
Over 3.4 million people have been exercising their right to elect the local government representatives during Local Government elections on Sunday.
