ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar has promised to extend facilitation for import of raw material, parts and accessories to meet requirements of export sector.

His comments came after reports from multiple media outlets and business quarters that thousands of containers packed with essential food items, raw materials and medical equipment had been held up at Karachi port as the country grappled with a desperate foreign exchange crisis.
Abdul Majeed, an official with the All Pakistan Customs Agents Association, was quoted as saying “I have been in the business for the past 40 years and I have not witnessed a worse time.”
Importers told media that around 6000 containers of pulses had been stuck at the ports due to shortage of dollars in the country, while on the other hand, shipping companies had collected $48 million in detention charges from importers on these stranded containers.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Ishaq Dar said “export industry is one of highest priority of our Govt. Five (previously) Zero Rated Export Oriented Sectors & all other Exporters will be given complete facilitation for import of Raw Material, Parts and Accessories to meet their Export requirements.”
