PTI stages countrywide protest against assassination attack on Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD/KARACHI/PESHAWAR/QUETTA: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has started series of protest demonstration to denounce assassination attempt on party Chairman Imran Khan.

In the federal capital territory, Lawyers took to the street to condemn attack on Imran Khan’s life. They took out a rally from F-8 Kutchery to the Supreme Court.

Supporters started gathering outside the Insaf House at 3pm. They were chanting slogans for freedom.

Protesters and the police were facing each other when the PTI supporters gathered at the Shahrah-e-Faisal to block the street. 

“In order to express solidarity with party chief Imran Khan we will record a peaceful protest in Karachi,” Bilal Ghaffar said in a video statement. He warned against making mischief as the party could give a shutter down call in the economic hub of the country.

According to media reports police fired tear gas shells to disperse the protester while many protesters including women were also arrested.

In Dera Ismail Khan’s Paharpur area, PTI workers blocked the traffic and staged dharna (sit-in) to register their protest against attempt to take life of Imran Khan.

PTI workers and supporters gathered in Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, offered prayers for the speedy recovery of Imran Khan, and later protested to condemn the attempt on his life

In Lakki  Marwat, KP, PTI workers and supporters blocked the traffic and burnt tyres to register their protest against assassination attempt on Imran Khan.

In Harnai Balochistan, PTI workers took to the street after Friday prayers and staged demonstration, demanding transparent inquiry into the incident. Some of the workers also burnt tyres to block the traffic.

Also in Kohlu Balochistan, PTI workers in large number took to the streets and condemned attempt on the life of Imran Khan.

in Sindh, lawyers and members of civil society took to the streets, denouncing the cowardly act of attempt on life of Imran Khan.

In Sindh’s Matiari, a group of lawyers condemned the attack on PTI’s Long March convoy.

After Friday prayers, people in large number took to the streets in Rojhan Mazari  Punjab, and condemned attempt to take life of Imran Khan.

In Wazirabad, Punjab, where the firing incident took place yesterday, PTI workers and supports have started to gather to register their protest.

Islamabad:

A video uploaded by the PTI Islamabad chapter showed that their supporters, who were protesting at the Muree Road, Faizabad, Rawalpindi, were distracted after the police fired tears gas shells at them.

The Insaf Student Federation, Islamabad organized a protest walk at the Islamic International University, Islamabad.

“A large number of students participated and demanded that the demands of PTI Chairman Imran Khan be fulfilled immediately,” said a PTI tweet.

Lahore:

PTI supporters were protesting at Shahdara Chowk, Begum Kot Chowk, Kalma Chowk in ILahore, according to updates by 4pm. The roads were blocked due to demonstration.

Citizens were being diverted to alternate routes, Dr Asad, the chief traffic officer, said and advised the citizens to avoid non-essential travel.

PTI supporters were protesting in front of Governor House Lahore and attempted to climb the main gate of Governor House. The protesters set the tires on fire and block the road chanting slogans against the coalition government.

Gujrat:

A large number of PTI workers gathered at Gujrat’s Shaheen Chowk and blocked the by-pass. The protesters set tires on fire.

Mansehra:

A group of PTI supporters led by MNA Salah Muhammad Khan was protesting at the Expressway.

Another group of protesters led by Special Assistant to Chief Minister Syed Ahmed Shah was protesting at Shahrah Kaghan. Protesters burnt tires and blocked the highway at Chinarkot.

Meanwhile, lawyers in Mansehra also boycotted the court proceedings in protest.

Swat:

A large number of PTI supporters were protesting at Nishat Chowk Mingora.
