LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has issued a show-cause notice to its candidate in the AJK general elections for threatening to seek India’s help “if attempts were made by the government to rig the polls”.
Promptly reacting to the statement, PML-N General Secretary Ahsan Iqbal issued a show-cause notice to Chaudhry Ismail Gujjar. “A statement given by you appeared on the electronic media in which you have irresponsibly stated that you will seek help from India for your election,” the notice reads.
The PML-N leader asked Ismail Gujjar to furnish an explanation within seven days, warning him of strict disciplinary action if he failed to comply with the order.
Talking to journalists in Gujranwala, Ismail Gujjar said, “If you try to rig elections, I will call India for help. I warn you this is the election of Azad Kashmir and its people, let it be peaceful.”
He had said this while talking to journalists near a polling station set up at Government High School No 2, where the deputy commissioner had allegedly kicked out PML-N and All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference’s polling agents.
Following their exit from the polling station, the agents had reportedly got into a heated argument with the deputy commissioner after which the polling process was halted.
Gujjar had said his election camp was “dismantled” despite the presence of police personnel. He had warned his party would “also cause problems” if the polling process did not continue peacefully.
“The deputy commissioner had asked my polling agents to leave and threatened them,” the PML-N candidate had said. He had asked the government to take action, otherwise, unrest will ensue “and people will die”.
‘Fawad Chaudhry’
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry asked PML-N to issue a show-cause notice to party supremo Nawaz Sharif. “Ahsan Iqbal has issued a notice to a political orphan over his statement wherein he had sought help from India,” Fawad added.

While appreciating the PML-N for issuing a show cause notice to the “enemy of Pakistan”, he said it would have been better had the party served a notice on its supremo Nawaz Sharif and grilled him for meeting Afghan National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib in London last week.
Sharif’s meeting with the Afghan NSA was condemned by government officials after pictures from the occasion were released on Twitter by the National Security Council of Afghanistan on July 24.
