Punjab govt to register cases over violation of coronavirus SOPs

LAHORE: Punjab government has decided to take strict action over the violations of COVID-19 related standard operating procedures (SOPs) including registration of cases after surging in the number of coronavirus cases.

According to a notification issued on Saturday, Commissioner Lahore, Muhammad Usman ordered strict implementation of the order to wear masks. Those who do not wear masks will be detained and can be jailed for six months the warned.

In this regard, a meeting was held at Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Office Lahore. The meeting was chaired by Lahore Police Chief Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, Additional IG, Commissioner Lahore Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman, DC Lahore. Mudassar Riaz Malik, DIG Operations Lahore Sajid Kayani, DIG Investigation Sharq Jamal, DIG Hassan Raza Khan attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed proposals regarding the implementation of Coronavirus SOPs. Meeting decided to register cases against those who do not wear masks and ordered strict action against those who do not follow government guidelines.

Ghulam Mahmood Dogar said that government guidelines should be implemented at any cost. Commissioner Lahore said that joint teams and control rooms have been set up, police and district administration should take joint action against violators of Coronavirus SOPs.

CCPO Lahore said that Coronavirus SOPs should be strictly enforced in marriage halls and public places. Public transport will operate at 50 percent of capacity. Compulsory mask-wearing will also be ensured and action has been ordered against the violators.

The move by the city administration comes as Lahore’s positivity ratio was reported to have shot up by an alarming rate.

In the last 24 hours, 6,762 tests were carried out, and 1,233 people tested positive for the infection — raising the city’s positivity ratio to 18%.
