ISLAMABAD: Disgruntled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Akbar S Babar Khan has claimed that a friend of Prime Minister Imran Khan offered him to give chairman Senate post demanding to drop the foreign funding case.
Talking to the media, Babar who filed the foreign funding case against PTI in 2014 said that he had been threatened and offered incentives to drop the case against the PTI ever since he pursued action against it in the foreign funding case.
S Babar said, “A friend of Imran Khan offered me the post of chairman Senate. However he had rejected all offers since as he was fighting for on a noble purpose,” he added.
Babar said that the leaders of PTI still had not president the details of its six foreign bank accounts for more than six years. “The ECP’s scrutiny committee has been unable to hold the party’s audit,” he added.
The disgruntled PTI leader announced that he will challenge the steering committee’s decision, adding that he can only seek justice from the institutions in Pakistan.
He said, “When I lodged a case against the party, Khan hid behind a stay order. Imran is running away from competing against me for the past six years,” he claimed.
Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had given reasons for the delay in deciding the foreign funding case against PTI.
“The Election Commission of Pakistan said that we are committed to fulfilling our responsibilities without any pressure. The institution is fully aware of its legal and constitutional responsibilities.”
Explaining the reasons for the delay in deciding the foreign funding case, the ECP said that the agency was facing various difficulties during the global outbreak of coronavirus. Meanwhile, the absence of lawyers also led to a delay in the decision of the foreign funding case, the Commission said.
The Election Commission had directed the scrutiny committee set up in the foreign funding case to meet at least three days a week. The ECP said that the decision of the case was also delayed due to the retirement of a scrutiny member.
The case was taken to the Election Commission in 2014 by Akbar S. Babar, one of the founding members of the PTI. “PTI received funds not only from Pakistanis abroad but also from foreigners, which is not allowed by Pakistani law, “the petitioner alleged.
