ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan Employees Federation (APEF) has staged a sit-in in front of the National Press Club in Islamabad today (Monday), demanding a pay rise.
According to details, a huge number of government employees from all over Pakistan, including female employees, participated in the protest. The protestors were banners against the government policies and demanded a pay rise.
The protesters have threatened to stage a protest in front of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s house in Bani Gala. “We will not end our protest until the demands are met”, one of the protestors said while talking to M.M News.
“Our salaries should also be increased just like the government did of federal employees. We have been protesting in our respective provinces for a long time but nothing happened yet,” the protestor added.
The protestors also criticized the Imran Khan-led federal government for increasing inflation, saying, “Our salaries should be increased in proportion to inflation.”
Earlier today (Monday), the Pakistan government has decided not to increase the salaries of employees of 18 departments by 25 percent. A summary of the decision not to increase pay will be tabled in the Cabinet tomorrow for approval.
According to the Finance Ministry summary, the salaries of the employees working in the Presidency, Prime Minister House, Senate, National Assembly, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), health department, National Accountability Bureau (NAB), high courts, Islamabad Police, Motorway Police, and Airport Security Force (ASF) will not be raised.
Federal government employees had recently staged a protest in Islamabad against a non-increase of salaries after which the government decided to increase the salaries of some government employees.
